BankMuscat presents Partners in Progress awards

The sixth edition of the annual Partners in Progress award ceremony by BankMuscat was held to honour merchant partners for outstanding contributions to card business in 2010. Senior executives of companies shortlisted for the awards attended the function held at the Bank's headquarters. A total of 20 categories ranging from the government to automobiles, airlines, insurance, telecommunications, hotels and hypermarkets received the awards. A new special award category for beauty salons was introduced this year to honour women merchant partners. The award winners are Oman Air (Airlines), Suhail Bahwan Automobiles (Automotive), Al Lilac Beauty Centre (Beauty Salon), Budget Car Rental (Car Rental), Gulf Imports Establishment (Clothing), Centrepoint (Department and Luxury Store), Jumbo Electronics (Electronics), Fahmy Furniture (Furniture), Royal Oman Police (Government Services), Shangri-La (Hotels and Resorts), LuLu Hypermarket (Hypermarket), Oman United Insurance (Insurance), Damas Jewellery (Jewellery), Muscat Private Hospital (Healthcare and Hospitals), Omantel (Telecommunications), Pizza Hut (Restaurant), Al Fair (Supermarket), Bahwan Travel Agencies (Travel and Tourism), Amouage (Perfumes) and Horizon Fitness (Other retailers). AbdulRazak Ali Issa, Chief Executive, said: "The Partners in Progress awards were conceived as a tribute to our merchant partners and customers. BankMuscat has grown from strength to strength with the support of all partners in the industry, customers and the goodwill of people. The success of e-payment gateway has encouraged the Bank to launch more innovative services and payment solutions, including the GPRS (mobile) Point of Sale terminal solution and unattended kiosks. BankMuscat initiatives are aimed at complementing the government efforts in making e-payment the preferred mode of payment and changing the landscape of cards payment industry in Oman." The year 2010 was an exciting period for the card acquiring team as merchant partners recorded a 33 per cent increase in the number of transactions processed on the Bank terminals, reflecting a 35 per cent increase in card sales volumes. The figures reflect that electronic payment is becoming the preferred mode of payment for customers. During the year, BankMuscat concluded a number of projects to facilitate e-payment infrastructure in the country, including the mobile GPRS and EMV terminals. The Bank also launched EMV credit cards, assuring customers of the best security for e-payment. The PoS terminals were integrated with the accounting systems of merchants, helping to reduce operation time and reconciliation issues. The Bank also introduced its solution for unattended kiosks to facilitate payments. The initiatives strengthened the cards acceptance infrastructure in the country, adding to convenience of customers. BankMuscat commenced card acquiring operations in 2002 and since then has crossed many milestones to become the largest acquirer and issuer of cards in Oman. The Bank has deployed over 4500 Point of Sales Point of Sale terminals across the country to support e-payment and continues to expand rapidly. BankMuscat offers a variety of card products, which cater to the needs of virtually every customer segment in the market. The bouquet of card products includes Infinite, Platinum, Gold, Classic, ladies card (Zeinah) and Corporate credit cards in addition to Visa Electron debit cards. The Bank also issues different variants of pre-paid cards such as ePayment, MyMoney and eCash.
